While working on this project, I was very strict about the materials and footprint of my work. Our client was interested in an economically and environmentally sustainable outcome, and I did everything to respect these wishes throughout the whole process in order to make sure they were satisfied with the outcome.
Handy Pool Maintenance Tips
BACKWASHING YOUR SWIMMING POOL:
Switch the pool pump off.
Make sure all the baskets are clean (skimmer, inline and pump baskets).
Unplug the pool cleaner.
Clean the chlorinators cell /electrode if there is a build-up visible.
Turn the multiport top from filter to backwash (holding the handle down while you turn it).
Turn on the pump for 2 – 3 minutes (until the water inside the sight glass is clean) and when clear.
Turn the pump off.
Turn the multiport top from backwash to rinse (always turn the pump off before you turn the handle).
Turn on the pump for approx 30 seconds to 1 minute until water in the sight glass is clear.
Turn the pump off and turn the handle back to filter.
Turn the pool pump on.
Plug the pool cleaner back into the skimmer.
WEAK SUCTION
Switch off the pool pump.
See that all the baskets (skimmer, inline and pump baskets) are empty.
See if the suction is stronger after giving the pool a good backwash and rinse.
See if any of the Baracuda or APC hoses have holes in them.
See if it runs better on bypass, if it does this is usually an indication that the sand needs to be changed.
See if any parts on the pool cleaner need to be replaced
TREATING ALGAE:
Ensure that the filtration and circulatory system is WORKING effectively.
Backwash and rinse the filter. ( Ensure that pool cleaner is unplugged and all baskets are clean .)
Check and adjust pH to 7.4
Give the algae a good brush down
APPLY BioGuard® Burn Out
Two bags per 40,000 l of pool water.
Double dose if chlorine level is zero ( four bags Burn Out® per 40,000 l )
APPLY BioGuard® MSA II algaecide for black, mustard or pink slime algae. 100 ml per 10,000 l of pool water,
or use Algae Killer® for green algae or double dose of Algae Killer® for mustard algae
Aid filteration by using either Polysheen Blue® or BioGuard® Super Clear Tablets.
Use BioGuard® Strip Kwik® to clean oil and fatty DEPOSITS trapped the filter every 6 months.
Use BioGuard® 3 step program to prevent algae growth.
TREATING STAINS:
Determine whether its a scale build up (beige colour) or if its metals (darker colour of the walls) in the water.
If its a scale build up, add Bioguard® Scale Inhibitor (250 ml per 10,000 L of pool water when chlorine levels are at 1 ppm or less).
If its metal stains, add Bioguard® Pool Magnet (250 ml per 10,000 L of pool water when chlorine levels are at 1 ppm or less).
Do not shock dose with chlorine for 7 days.
Use BioGuard® Sparkle Up to trap and filter out metals.
Correct water balance.
